Spring 2008

In Spring 2007 we surpassed our goal for 28,500 origami whales, and went on to create a "Curtain of 30,000 Origami Whales", which reflects the most recent estimate of whales slaughtered since 1986. The "Curtain of 30,000 Origami Whales" was exhibited at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts during the International Whaling Commission meetings in Anchorage, Alaska, the 29th through 31st of May, and on the 2nd of June at the Alaska Oceans Festival*.

Here are ways that you can still help:
Make a tax-deductible donation. Funding is needed to cover costs of materials, shipping and exhibiting the "Curtain of 30,000 Origami Whales in mid-February 2008 at the Pacific Whale Foundation "Whale Day" festival on Maui, and to exhibit the curtain during the IWC meetings in Chile in June 2008. [Please click here]

There are numerous e-mail actions that you can take to protest against whaling. Please click here for information or refer to the links in the lefthand column and bottom of this page.

Please check back for updates on the exhibits of the "Curtain of 30,000 Origami Whales".

If your school or group would like to participate by sending origami whales to add to the curtain, please contact Peggy Oki.
