A Call To Action To PROTECT WHALES WORLDWIDE

Whalewatch is a coalition
of over 140 non-governmental
organizations (NGOs) in over
55 countries worldwide, united
by a common belief that
whaling should be banned
because it is inherently cruel.
Their goal:
To maintain the International
Whaling Commission (IWC) ban
on commercial whaling and to
show the world that the whaling
debate is not just about numbers
and conservation, but also
about animal suffering.

Dear Friends,

More than ever your voice is needed for the protection of dolphins & whales. Please join me in the “Minds in the Water” Visual Petition campaign and help me win* sponsorship to the IWC meetings in June 2008.

Organized by Surfers for Cetaceans, co-founder and world-reknowned pro surfer “Rasta” (Dave Rastovich) has brought celebrity surfers Kelly Slater (8 times World Surfing Champion), Andy Irons (3 times World), Mick Fanning (2007 World), Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, and many friends on board. So far
over 2,000 visual petitions have been submitted. My visual petition may be viewed at: http://www.visualpetition.com/slippages/viewpetition1.php?countnum=995

* "The Visual Petition Contest gives 5 passionate people around the world the opportunity to travel with Rasta and other top surfers to the IWC (International Whaling Commission) meeting in Chile June 2008. On an all expenses paid trip the person who gathers the largest quantity of portraits for the Visual Petition in their part of the world will help to physically hand the global petition to the delegates of the IWC. ...one person from (each of) the (5 separate) regions of Australia/New Zealand, North America, South America, Asia/Africa, and Europe an all expenses paid trip to Santiago Chile in late June 2008."

Whoever collects the most visual petitions per region will be awarded sponsorship. You can help me to win by submitting your visual petition and entering my username in the submittal process (All geographic locations of participants qualify for points towards my entry.).

Because i
t is a bit more effort than typing in an e-mail address, rather than a list of names a more powerful statement will be made when these visual petitions are presented to the delegates at the IWC meetings.

In order for me to receive the points in the contest, these instructions must be followed closely:
1) Go to:
http://www.visualpetition.com/slippages/p1download.php
for instructions from where you may
DOWNLOAD one of the IMAGES that they offer of a painting or photo of dolphins or whales to use. OR you can click here to download my painting "Dive at Dawn" shown here (in the righthand column).

2)
Have a PHOTO taken of you holding the IMAGE.
Then return to the "join petition now" page
http://www.visualpetition.com/slippages/p2upload.php and scroll to the bottom of the page and click on "Step 2. Upload" to upload your PHOTO.

3) When entering the information, once the image and details have been uploaded you will see at the bottom of the page a little text box and a description to add there will be a place for a USERNAME. In that place, please enter mine, which is PeggyO

The final date to submit visual petitions is the 31st of May 2008.
Please share this link with your friends & family*to participate & submit my username, and I'll receive points for every submittal.
*After telling my friend at a party about the campaign he strongly urged that I bring my camera & petition along with one of my own dolphin prints (any cetacean photo or print will work for the visual petition) into the party. I was pleasantly surprised with how many people at the party enthusiastically supported this effort. It was really fun for all, and I collected over 20 visual petitions, and 2 parties plus 2 events later, I've collected over 70 VPs! If you feel it appropriate, please try this at some of your holiday parties and visits with friends and family. People are enjoying it! If you would like to take other people's petition photos, please go to this link below, and scroll down towards the bottom to download the Visual Petition Information sheet and Visual Petition Statement and Conditions:

It may seem like quite a challenge to win, but as another friend told me: "If you can make a "Curtain of 30,000 Origami Whales", you can win this contest." So on his urging, I'm asking for your help. Whether I win the sponsorship or not, your voice to protect Cetaceans is needed, and I am glad to contribute to this effort and am grateful to you for your considerations.

For the Dolphins & Whales,
Peggy Oki

My thanks
to all who have
already signed the
visual petition
for my entry
towards sponsorship.
