| "A healthy estuary may rival tropical rain forests in numbers and types fo species per acre." The Carpinteria Salt Marsh is home to species such as the Light-Footed Clapper Rail, Tiger Beetle, Salt Marsh Bird's-beak, & Belding's Savannah Sparrow, all of which are listed as Endangered Species. There are about 37 species of fish may be found. Marine fish use the marsh as a nursery. This environmentally valuable habitat is among the less than 10% remaining wetlands in California.
